Idylla jest idealna: nigdzie w pobliżu nie widać samochodów ani nie słychać hałasu, a jedynie rozległe pastwiska, strzeliste szczyty oraz towarzystwo sympatycznych miłośników gór wraz z gospodarzem schroniska.
Barwne kwiaty, soczyste, kolorowe łąki alpejskie, głębokie wąwozy, osobliwe skały i rustykalne schroniska. W schroniskach alpejskich i górskich w Południowym Tyrolu zgiełk i stres pozostają w domu, a tradycyjne potrawy dodają sił zarówno ciału, jak i duszy.
Większość schronisk została zbudowana pod koniec XIX wieku – jako schronienie dla alpinistów. Chociaż początkowo pełniły one przede wszystkim funkcję ochronną, obecnie są popularnym celem wycieczek i służą wędrowcom, alpinistom oraz narciarzom jako bazy wypadową.
Schroniska są często prowadzone przez stowarzyszenia alpejskie – Alpenverein Południowego Tyrolu (AVS) i CAI (Club Alpino Italiano) – które dbają również o przylegające do nich szlaki i dbają o to, by górska idylla pozostała nienaruszona.
