Zabawny i dziki: karnawał w Południowym Tyrolu
Wtedy Południowy Tyrol pokazuje się jako dziki i oryginalny i odpędza zimę jak za dawnych czasów. W minionych wiekach początek wiosny w Południowym Tyrolu był wyczekiwany z niemal większą radością i tęsknotą niż dziś. W końcu zimy często bywały bardzo ciężkie, brakowało jedzenia, a miejscowi podejrzewali duchy i demony w długie zimowe noce.
Aby położyć kres zimie, ludzie spotykali się w wiosce na głupich paradach, przebierali się i odpędzali złe duchy, zimno i śnieg głośnymi okrzykami i wymyślnymi maskami.
Nawet dziś stare zwyczaje karnawałowe są nadal praktykowane w wielu południowotyrolskich wioskach, nawet jeśli w XXI wieku nie chodzi już tak bardzo o wypędzenie zimy, ale raczej o zabawę. Najbardziej znane, tradycyjne zwyczaje karnawałowe to procesja Egetmann w Tramin i wyścig Zussl w Prad am Stelvio w Val Venosta.

W karnawałowym miesiącu lutym, zwłaszcza w psotny czwartek, w Południowym Tyrolu odbywają się tradycyjne parady karnawałowe, a także tętniące życiem, nowoczesne imprezy karnawałowe, na przykład w następujących miejscowościach:
